blade management module console connection troubleshooting;

symptoms; blank screen, repeating keys, erractice console display

The blade console is connected to the blade managment processor (or bmc-baseboard management controller).  Since the console is web based, it uses java to connect your browser thru a vnc connection to the managment module 'svnc like console for the selected blade.

  1. If java does not start or remote control screen never initialize, try closing all browsers (can be trick on a terminal or citrix server) or try firefox
  2. recycle the blade managment processor (bmc)   (use the mgmt module blade task)
  3. Recycle the chassis mgmt module (may require you to recycle blade managment processor(bmc))
  4. if the blade is not loaded, power off the blade, then power it back on.

other tips/notes from search on IBM web

if these steps fail, it is important to note that the blade mgmt modules are sensitive to blade & blade managment (bmc) processor firmware revision. Use these steps to if all other resolutions fail;

  1. update blade firmware if possible
  2. remove any idle blades from chassis that have outdated firmware that cannot be updated
  3. remove any blades with alarms/alerts that cannot be corrected
  4. use back-up mgmt module
  5. swap the mgmt module slots (move the module to the other mgmt module slot)
  6. re-seat the blade in the chassis
