Migrating email to vigilant\cas servers
KBA-01043
Purpose & Scope
Steps for moving an email domain
The domain will not be transferred
The mx records and the mail server will be changed
The name server will be changed or name records will be updated at the current registrar
Procedure
Client
MUST
set-up helm account for desired hosting service
The client
must provide the domain name
he is transferring when he signs up
An admin,
must set the account
to
active
in helm if helm does not automagically activate it.
Helm link
http://cp.vigilant1.com
Add the domain;
Add email addresses;
Get domain account login info
Add
http://www.vigilant1.com/Whois/tabi...fault.aspx
login into dns control panel (record in a safe place the mx record info and the mail server ip address
Option 1; redirecting IP addresses (this makes hosting management more complex)
point mx records (change address to spam.casit.net)
Change mail server ip address to 67.137.228.221
Option 2;
Change name servers or redirect name servers to ns1.casit.net, ns2.casit.net
Additional Comments
Changing MX and dns records can
cause email delays up to 72 hours
. This occurs because some providers name server updates are done on a schedule and becuase the changes have to propgate throughout the internet.
